🥘 Ingredients

  • 250g chana dal or toor dal, 1 tomato (chopped), 1 onion (chopped), 1 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp cumin, salt.
  • Tadka: 2 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 2 dried red chilli, 10 curry leaves, 4 cloves garlic (sliced), ½ tsp red chilli powder.

👨‍🍳 Steps

  1. Step 1: Wash dal thoroughly. Pressure cook or simmer with 3 cups water, turmeric, onion, tomato, and salt until very soft (20 min simmer or 3 whistles). Mash roughly.
  2. Step 2: Heat ghee until very hot. Add mustard seeds, wait for them to pop. Add dried chilli and garlic, fry until golden.
  3. Step 3: Add curry leaves (careful — they spit!) and red chilli powder. Swirl 5 seconds.
  4. Step 4: Pour entire tadka over dal immediately. Cover 2 minutes to trap aroma before serving.
